And so it begins - Get those eggs ready, woman!

If you are here, then doubtless you are someone who knows me or you were brought here by some freak search engine accident.

If you are wondering what the Baby Bet is then I will try to explain. While celebrating the birth of the son of a good friend, Drew's sister let on that she had been bet by her brother that she could not go a whole year without drinking soft drink. My wife, Sunny, heard this tale and almost immediately challenged me to go a whole year without eating fast food - a challenge I immediately laughed off.

Sunny knows that my weight is far too high. I am in the Obese range with a BMI of 35.48 (being 178cm tall and weighing in at 112.5kg). I have been trying for ages to get to and maintain a healthy weight, without much success.

Having noticed just how "clucky" I was that day, having held the boy for several minutes and taking heaps of photos, Sunny thougth she saw an opportunity to give me the push I need to fix my health: she stated the challenge again and said that if I was successful then we would have another child straight away. She knows how important it is to me to have more children and we have been debating if or when we would have any more. I can tell you now that it will be in one year and nine months.

We spent two days hammering out the conditions and signed a set of rules and agreements starting the challenge at 12:01 Perth time on Monday the 5th of January, 2009. The rules include penalties and an early escape clause after 185 days if I manage to get under 85kg. I had my last meal (a large Zinger Barbecue Bacon and Cheese meal from KFC - which they got wrong as usual)

So far I have spent two days without buying fast food (which has a specific definition under the agreement) which may not seem that hard, but I spent today at the Hopman Cup so food options were pretty limited. You may be interested to know that you can get a pretty decent stuffed spud at the Hopman Cup.

So stay tuned an I hope to take you along with me on this journey to health and fatherhood.

Two days down, 363 to go!
